On behalf of the Local Organising Group, I am delighted to welcome you to Sydney for the 23rd International Vacuum Congress to be held 15 – 19 September 2025.
The IVC is the main Congress of IUVSTA (International Union of Vacuum Science, Technique and Applications) which is run every three years and sees between 1200-1800 participants from all over the world and in particular those researchers that are working in the nine Scientific Divisional area topics of most Vacuum Societies: Applied Surface Science, Biointerfaces, Electronic Materials Processing and Photonics, Nanoscale Structures, Plasma Science and Technologies, Surface Engineering, Surface Science, Thin films, Vacuum Science and Technology. We expect about half the participants will be from Australia and New Zealand and the other half from Europe, Asia, and the Americas. We are working closely with IUVSTA and all national vacuum societies to market our meeting. In fact we have several Australians that are working within the Divisions, Committees, as Councillors, and in the Executive of IUVSTA. For example, I am the Scientific Secretary.
We have, in addition to our nine Scientific Divisional themes, an exciting and topical program highlighting the following:
- Quantum Science and Technologies
- Energy
- Environmental sustainability
- Brain imaging and interfaces
- Magnetism
These are areas that Australia, the region, and the rest of the world are seeing very active research and development in. We will therefore attract a large cohort of scientists to the Congress in 2025 and invite you therefore to join us and have a fruitful time making connections and doing business.

- The Student Bursary will assist an Awardee by assisting with the cost of attending the congress and will be offered to participants whose abstracts have been accepted for presentation. Applications will be submitted via the abstract submission portal when submitting an abstract for presentation.
- Funds will be provided to the award recipients at the Symposium venue to cover registration and assist with travel costs.

The Lanyard Sponsor will have the opportunity to provide your own branded lanyards to the Congress. This is a highly visible and exclusive opportunity for the nominated sponsor. Lanyards will be worn by all participants of the Congress including delegates, speakers, sponsors, and exhibitors.

Exhibition Notes:
- Applications for exhibition can be made separately from the Sponsorship packages
- Stand numbers will be allocated on a first come first served basis. The congress managers reserve the right to alter stand numbers for valid reason. Where this occurs, written notice will be given to the affected exhibitors with every attempt to accommodate their requirements and needs
- Exhibitors are responsible for the management of each booth. The managers are not liable for theft, loss, or damage, monetary or otherwise
- Certain restrictions apply to sampling, merchandise, and stand build. Please contact the congress managers if you have any of these on your stand
- All exhibitors must supply a Public Liability Insurance valid in Australia equivalent to the value of $20million AUD dollars single occurrence
